FINALE

“Misa! Stop!” L stumbled after her.

“L, I can’t die without apologizing...” Misa looked below her, the building was at least 35 stories high. The lights of the city showed brightly against the black of the night. “So...I’m sorry. I’m sorry if I made you feel like I do...I’m sorry for using you...”

“Misa...you would cause me more pain if you were to commit suicide...” L whispered.

“I’m sick of it! Kira, Light, deceiving, I hate it all!” Misa screamed as she jumped off the roof.

L watched helplessly as Misa started to fall, “MIIIIIIIISAAAAA!!!!!!” he screamed, though he knew nothing would happen.

L leaned over the side of the building, “Please...if there is a god...don't let this happen!”

“There is a god in this world,” Raito’s cold voice came from behind him.

L hastily turned around, his eyes re from the crying.

“That would be me.” Light laughed evilly. “Kira- actually. But now that you know that, you’ll have to die. I don’t even need Misa for this anymore,”

And with that, Light kicked L off the roof.

L looked below as he fell, hoping that he died without having to see Misa’s death, at least.

Light was Kira.

For sure.

He wished there was a way to tell them that, before he died.

But wishes weren’t always granted.

As was now apparent.

L couldn’t believe this was the way it was going to end.

Falling, falling.

The only good thing was that it took a minute or so for them to fall all the way, so L could have his last thoughts.

L thought back, if there was a heaven and hell, which would he go to?

He had no idea.

Suddenly, a gun shot.

Then, it was black.
****************************

Misa slowly opened her eyes to the sound of ambulance sirens, where was she?

Looking around, she slowly got her feeling back. A huge pain in her neck, back, and legs.

She had an enormous headache which was throbbing pain into her nerves.

She soon caught on that she was in an ambulance, she had been in one once for a movie before.

One of the nurses, noticing she was awake, called for the doctor.

They started discussing something, looking down at her every once in a while.

“Amane-san, we’re going to need you to rest for a little while.” The doctor finally said.

She closed her eyes cautiously, wondering about a lot of things.

**************************************
“Misa-Misa, Misa-Misa?!” She heard Matsuda’s familiar voice yell nervously.

She slowly opened her eyes, seeing him leaning over her, “Y...yes...?”

Matsuda’s eyes were red, and it was pretty apparent that he was crying.

“Oh my god, I’m so happy you’re ok!” Matsuda finally cracked a wide smile, but then looking into her anxious eyes, his smile slowly faded away, “M-Misa-chan...um...you somehow lived through that fall, but...well...”

Misa darted her eyes around her anxiously, looking for Rem.

Gone.

Misa realized what happened. Rem had told her once before that if a Shinigami uses their Death Note to save a human being, they would turn into dust.

Rem had sacrificed herself to save Misa from her suicide.

Her eyes filled up with tears, it was Misa’s fault that she was dead, she had tried to commit suicide, and Rem had stopped her, given her a second chance.

And sacrificed her life for that.

Matsuda looked at her blue eyes, “Don’t cry, Misa-chan. I have to tell you something very...” he paused, “Unfortunate.”

He looked up at her one more time, “Ryuuzaki-kun...he...well...” Matsuda’s eyes darted to the floor.

Misa shot up in her hospital bed, her face eager, “No...no...No! No no no! This can’t happen! How?! Two people died because I tried to kill myself!!! How is that fair!? How...!?” Misa burst out crying, burying her head in her hands.

“Misa-chan...” Matsuda looked at her sympathetically, “Ryuuzaki had somehow fallen off the building too, we don’t know how or why, but...well...he wasn’t as lucky as you...”

“No! I don’t want to hear it! Why did he have to...?” Misa sobbed.

“Misa-Misa, wait! You’re misunderstanding this, he’s not dead!”

Misa looked up with a sliver of hope, “He’s not?”

“No. But...he is in shock...you can see him as soon as you’re bones heal.” Matsuda replied.

Misa disobediently jumped up from her bed and struggled to get out of the room as fast as she could with her broken bones.

“MISA-MISA! STOP IT NOW!” Matsuda yelled after her.

Misa ran and ran, bystanders gasped at the sight of a very injured patient doing something in between a limp and sprint through the halls.

She tried her hardest until she reached a glass window, which lead into a patient’s room.

Misa stopped and looked in, her eyes full of fear.

Ryuuzaki lay there, with a shocked expression frozen on his face. He didn’t seem to be moving at all, and didn’t blink. He sat there on his hospital bed, still on life support.

Misa started to tremble, in fear, anger, and weakness.

“Ryuuzaki...” Tears started to stream out of her eyes, “I’m so sorry...”

By this time Matsuda had caught up, seeing Misa’s expression, he quickly gave her a hug, and she cried on his shoulder.

Suddenly she had a flash back, of the first day of the plan, when she actually talked to Ryuuzaki. When she dumped out her emotions and feelings about how she felt like a pawn, and how L allowed her to cry on his shoulder.

Misa shot her head up and took another glance at the frozen face on the other side of the window.

Without thinking, Misa tore the door open, and called loudly, “Ryuuzaki! Please don’t do this to me!”

L’s shocked expression of fear stayed in place, not even twitching.

Misa quickly ran to his side and wept as she fell to her knees.

“Amane-san,” the nurse gasped as she ran in, “You’re injured! Please return to your room at once!”

“How long...?” Misa whispered.

“E-Excuse me?” the nurse responded.

“How long...HOW LONG WILL HE BE LIKE THIS?!” she yelled in anger and grief.

“I-I believe the doctor said it could be a couple of months...and said that he might have amnesia when he heals...” she trembled in fear.

“A...couple of months...” Misa looked down as her tears streamed down her face, “And amnesia, you say...”

*************************
A Month Later

Misa walked into L’s hospital room with a box of expensive candies, wrapped in white and gold wrapping.

She walked over to his bed, she had healed weeks ago, but L was still here. It was Christmas Eve now.

“Ryuuzaki-kun...I...I bought this for you...as a Christmas present...I don’t know why, though...”

She gently put the box on his still lap.

Once again, she started to cry, “Merry Christmas, Ryuuzaki, I’m sorry you have to miss Christmas Eve...”

She turned around and slowly walked out of the room, not turning back at the risk of seeing his statue-like face.
***********************

The next day Misa couldn’t enjoy any of the parties, thinking of L being stuck in the small, cold hospital room.

Eventually, she gave up and caught a taxi to the hospital.

As she walked out of the elevator, she noticed how this was her fault, too.

She quietly opened the door and walked in.

The present from yesterday was still there, untouched.

Misa’s mind filled with depression as she slowly walked over to the shocked body.

“I’m sorry you had to miss Christmas, Ryuuzaki, I couldn’t have fun with this guilt, so I’ll stay and miss Christmas with you.” Misa said.

Looking at his expression of shock and fear gave her a sudden rush of depression. Thinking of when the plan started, and when she brought L in for the photo shoot, and the first time she kissed him, it all depressed her.

Thinking back to those times, she bent down over L, softly kissing his cold lips.

Pulling her head back, she half expected his face to turn fifteen shades of red and for him to say, “M-Misa-chan!” And cover his mouth like he did before.

“For some reason, I have no hope for you coming back, it’s like things will never be the same...” Misa stated blankly.

As expected, L didn’t react at all, he kept the same exact expression, and didn’t seem to move a millimeter.

“I really miss you...” Misa whispered, ignoring the breeze of cold air.

L stared up at the ceiling, as he had for the past month. “Misa...”

Misa shot her head up, she might of imagined it, but there seemed to be a very faint whisper under L’s breath. Had he just called her name?

“Ryuuzaki, if you can hear me, I want to open your gift for you while it’s still Christmas...”

L seemed to very quietly mumble something.

Misa suddenly had a burst of hope, she reached for the box and neatly took off the gold ribbon. Opening the box, she showed him the box of expensive candies.

“I knew this would be exactly what you wanted...and there’s something else, too.”

Misa took a small white box from her lap and opened it in front of L.

L would’ve admired the cake, the strawberry icing covered the vanilla cake evenly, and a plump, red strawberry lay on top.

Misa swiped some icing on her finger and stuck it in L’s mouth.

“Is it good?” she repeated, just like the first time.

She remembered how L had a look of shock on his face, but the blushing kind, not this kind.

Though almost impossible to see, L’s face turned a little pinker, and the corners of his mouth seemed to turn up just a bit.
Hua~ So sad. I told you that I'd post it up in a week! YAY.

Wow, this was my longest chapter. And there was a lot in it. I hope you enjoyed the end!
